Manticore: The Engineering Figures Behind the New Marcos
The numbers behind the Manticore: mid-engined layout, naturally aspirated engine, six-speed manual, a 28,000 Nm per degree chassis and a 200 mph target.
The Marcos Manticore is being developed around a clear idea: combine modern supercar performance with the mechanical involvement increasingly absent from high-performance cars.
Its configuration begins with a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout. Placing the engine behind the driver is intended to support balanced handling and responsive changes of direction, while power is delivered exclusively to the rear wheels.
The engine will be naturally aspirated and paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Rather than relying on turbocharging or removing the driver from the process through an automated gearbox, the Manticore is being engineered to provide an immediate response and a more physical connection with the car.
Underneath is a custom space-frame chassis, for which Marcos is quoting a projected torsional figure of 28,000 Nm per degree. The structure is being developed to provide the rigidity required for precise suspension control while remaining consistent with the lightweight engineering philosophy that has defined Marcos since 1959.
The Manticore is targeting a top speed of 200 mph.
Its proportions are equally purposeful. The car is projected to measure 14 feet 5 inches in length and just 45 inches in height. Width is listed as 6 feet 2 inches at the front and 6 feet 4 inches at the rear, giving the Manticore a low, wide stance with greater visual and mechanical emphasis over the driven rear wheels.
Together, the figures describe a focused kind of supercar: compact, low-slung, naturally aspirated and controlled through a manual gearbox. They also show how the Manticore intends to carry the Marcos tradition forward through engineering rather than imitation.
The programme has now reached advanced testing. All dimensions and performance figures remain projected targets, with the final production specification due to be confirmed when the Manticore is revealed in autumn 2026.
